Mensa collects members' cell numbers, but not permission to text them. Time to do that the same way we do with their email addresses.

Many people still have "metered" text plans for their wireless phones, so we'd need to be sure to have that as an "opt-in" feature. I would opt for it, though; I think it has great potential.

So long as the default is to NOT be able to text them - requiring a specific opt-in - this might be a good thing to add to the connectivity.
As noted below, I'll happily be opted OUT of this method of communication. No thanks!
