Just wondering

I keep reading LB and CC pontificating with authority about AML's finances. Did they ever read any of the posts I've written here about that topic? Does anyone even care about the views and data from someone who has been on the Finance Committee for nearly 5 years?

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone while relaxing from a 12-hour drive to visit sick dad. Tomorrow I'll do the rest of the trip; I just couldn't face navigating through the Smokies in the dark when I'm this tired.

Chat Room Issues

Why is it so difficult for people to look at the gestalt atmosphere of a community and see the general bitchiness? And how do I define and implement rules to fix it?

No Time for Mensa

My dad had a stroke and is very ill. I've been preparing to make the made drive ( about 14 hours) down to see him. Now it looks like he'll live, so my trip is likely put off for a week.

This morning I woke up to discover that my dog is ill. Bad ill. A couple of cups of blood all over the kitchen and living room kind of ill.

This is not a good week.

Results of Gifted Children Motions

The motions all passed.

There is a new position, held by Lisa Webster of Phoenix, called the National Events Youth Program Coordinator. Lisa will be added to this committee.

The name of the committee is now the Gifted Youth Committee. Keri is the Chair of the Gifted Youth Committee. This is a standing program committee. Everyone on the GCPT are all still members of the committee, and their tasks are:

1) Providing support for Local Groups’ youth activities and programs;

2) Developing and disseminating resources for Local Group Gifted Children Coordinators, parents, and teachers;

3) Representing AML with other associations for the gifted;

4) Researching and recommending policy regarding risk management, privacy, and safety issues concerning youth in Mensa;

5) Developing resources to recruit, welcome, and involve young Mensans;

6) Advising the AMC, the Mensa Education and Research Foundation, and other committees on gifted youth issues, including reviewing financial requests;

7) Developing criteria for and administering the Gifted Children Coordinators award program.

Go forth and do great things!

AMC Communication

While digging through old emails for other reasons, I found this. Looks like the start --and end-- of a Mega Issue discussion about AMC Communications a year ago.

I asked the AMC:

1) What types of internal-AMC communication are necessary?
2) Of those, which are for the eyes of we 22 only?
3) When information becomes appropriate to share outside the AMC, who decides and how are the rest of us informed?
4) What communication venues does AML currently offer and support?
5) What are the technological comfort and skill levels of each AMC member?
6) What are the predicted technological comfort and skill levels of each incoming AMC member?
7) Why do some current AMC members rarely or never participate in electronic discussions?

Interestingly, my records indicate that I received no answers to these questions. Sigh. So much for a information-driven decision-making process. Maybe I'll nudge them again, since one  of the formally-blessed Mega Issues this AMC identified in July is about communication.
